Fifteen years after the demolition of the Babri Masjid, the issue continued to haunt Parliament with the Lok Sabha adjourning for the day on Thursday amid demands for action against those responsible for the 'disgraceful' act.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice over the issue but transacted business after it reconvened at 2 pm.
Within minutes of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha assembling for the day, trouble started with Samajwadi Party members rushing to the well demanding action against those responsible for the 'disgraceful' act.
Bharatiya Janata Party members were up on their feet raising slogans Jai Shri Ram and Mandir Wahi Banayenge (We will build a temple there).
Rashtriya Janata Dal members in the Lok Sabha demanded immediate tabling of the report of the Liberhan Commission that probed the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992.
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who first adjourned the House till noon, again adjourned it till 2 pm hours after the papers were laid.
When the Lok Sabha re-assembled, the uproar continued but deputy speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal went ahead with the business.
Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha when it met for the day. Chairman Hamid Ansari's repeated pleas for calm went unheeded and he adjourned the house till noon.
When the house re-assembled, members resorted to similar protest, forcing its adjournment till 2 pm.
However, calm returned to the house after the second adjournment and it took up for discussion the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Bill, 2007.
